AWS EC2 Image Builder Component for Spillbox HPC

This article describes the AWS EC2 Image Builder component for Spillbox HPC that installs and configures the Spillbox software and usage metering, preparing it as a golden image for your AWS HPC environment.

Prerequisites

  • An AWS account with access to EC2 Image Builder
  • An existing base AMI compatible with your HPC environment
  • An IAM role with permissions to run EC2 Image Builder pipelines

Installation

To use this component in your EC2 Image Builder pipeline:


Subscribe to the Component

  1. Navigate to the Discover products section under AWS Marketplace in the EC2 Image Builder console.
  2. Select the Components tab and search for Spillbox HPC Usage Metering Component .
  3. Continue to Subscribe button screenshot
  4. Select View subscription options select and Subscribe.
    ⚠️ Please note it can take a few minutes for the subscription to be processed and available for use.
  5. Once you have subscribed you will see the Status change to Subscribed . You can now use the component in your image recipes.

Add Component to Image Recipe

  1. Open the EC2 Image Builder console.
  2. Choose Image recipes.
  3. Select Create image recipe or edit an existing recipe.
  4. Choose your base AMI.

Add the Spillbox component

  1. In the Components section, choose Add component.
  2. Select AWS Marketplace components.
  3. Search for Spillbox HPC Usage Metering Component.
  4. Select the latest version and add it to the recipe.

Build the AMI

  1. Complete the remaining recipe configuration (storage, infrastructure, and distribution settings).
  2. Create an Image Builder pipeline or run a one-time build.
  3. Wait for the image build to complete successfully.

Launch Instances from the AMI

  1. Launch EC2 instances using the AMI produced by the Image Builder pipeline.
  2. The Spillbox software is automatically available on the instance at launch.
  3. No additional installation or configuration steps are required on compute or worker nodes.

Pricing and Billing

Pricing follows standard AWS Marketplace AMI hourly pricing. Billing is automatically calculated by AWS Marketplace.
